I'm meeting up with Claes and hopefully a few other old chums from VT in Romania next month. Do join us. I thought of having the get together in Dracula's castle, but I can't see myself staying in a place with no mirrors. (Waits for chuckle - not a sausage.) I look forward to getting pleasantly sloshed on bats' blood fermented in goat's bladders or whatever it is they drink down there.

As my date with the former Louise80 approaches, I'm in a panic over what to wear. I've narrowed it down to a white Boss jacket with a charcoal-grey Marimekko shirt, but I'm totally at a loss for trousers. Pants. Legwear. Got any suggestions? For background, here are my plans for the evening: posh island restaurant, great food, fine wine, and a romantic stroll on the shore in the sunset culminating in a clumsy seduction attempt.

I'm on holiday at the moment staying with friends in Exmouth on the northwest coast of Australia.
Exmouth is usually extremely dry, it only rains rarely, usually in connection with a cyclone. Even the cyclone that actually hit the town earlier this year didn't bring any rain. But there was a LOT of rain here a few weeks ago, the tail end of a cyclone at sea. It caused a fair bit of damage, with roads washed away and the town was cut off for a few days. Locals are saying that there's probably been some damage to the reef as loads of sand has moved on the beaches. Great areas of land in the bush that are usually bone dry are now lakes. It means there are a lot more insects than usual. Lots of mozzies of course, stick insects all over the garden with lizards scampering about feeding on them.
I missed the butterflies but there are still great clounds of dragonflies near the flooded areas. I wouldn't have thought it possible to see so many dragonflies in one place, they were quite amazing to drive through on the way back from the Cape National Park, hundreds and hundreds of them. Occasionally a clound of them makes it's way into town or along the beach.

Now there's plagues of catterpillars. They only seem to eat the leaves on the Poinsiana trees, but once they've stripped them bare, they fly about on little silken cords and fall all over the place, littering the garden and paths, and falling in your hair. UGH!

This is the start of a painting I've been meaning to create for ages. It's just a sketch at the moment but it's supposed to show that people of all faiths can live together in peace. (on a canvas anyway) A mate down the pub saw it and said "Are you really trying to get your brains blown out by an Islamic fundamentalist who might take acception to a veiled figure glaring in the background at Buddha wearing a "Star of David" pendant, contemplating a crucifix. No need to worry - if the fundies pick on you, the government will protect you at the taxpayer's expense (cf Salman Rushdie, the Danish cartoonist and their ilk). All unprotected citizens of your country will be considered fair game, though.

Listening to the radio the other day someone suggested allowing the "endangered" giant panda to become extinct arguing that it has served it's purpose on earth. Initially I thought it was a ridiculous suggestion but then started contemplating.
Do human's have a moral duty to "save" all living species? What makes us think that we even can? Is the giant panda endangered because of human activity on earth? Are human's mind boggling arrogant thinking they can and must control everything?
If our ancestors had saved endagered species we would be sharing the earth with dinosaurs today. I for one, do not relish the thought of strolling home from the pub late at night and bumping into a hungry tyranosaurus rex.

Don't get me wrong, I love animals and think they are important, but wouldn't it be better if we spent our time, effort and money on protecting people? Ie making sure that all the people in the world have enough to eat and decent living and working conditions, sorting out the problems between countries that lead to war etc

Thank God thats over, at least until we have to go through it all again next year !. Far as I can see it causes havoc and nobody seems to know the correct time anywhere in the world. Its hillarious listening to the radio and hearing the radio announcers trying to work it out and usually giving up, or getting it wrong. I really do hope that when it goes to a refferendem next year it gets voted out, forever !. As if Australians NEED more exposure to the sunlight or even MORE time to cram more stuff into the day. So, YAY I'm glad its over. Gedda

I agree - its called Greenwich Mean Time and the whole world's time is based on the difference they have to GMT - so let's just have the whole world on GMT - then working out time differences wouldn't be a problem.
And, yes, I demand a decent summer - the Spring's been crap so far!

If baseball bats are unacceptable, how could the slaughter be made more media-friendly? Points will be awarded for aesthetically pleasing entries. Extra points can be earned for environmental friendliness and cost-effectiveness. With the boom in "experiential tourism", would you join a seal clubbing tour, and how much would you pay for yet another thrill of a lifetime?

What is all the fuss about global warming? There is nothing we can do about it.
Climate change is caused by the "precession of equinoxes" and the earth wobbling on it's axis. Cutting CO2 emmissions will not make the slightest bit of difference. There have been recorded periods of warming and "ice ages" over millennia.

It seems to be growing in popularity for children to have to be driven to school by their parents, often in 4WDs (as opposed to going on a school bus) if it is too far too walk. I wonder how many thousands of gallons of petrol that wastes.

It seems not possible to change the title or the template(which I found awkward to use) after the first save. Does that mean if I want to change my mind Iayout the layout I have to re-do it and ask for the old one to be deleted? Lesley

While reformatting the homepage I found it useful to create a new table then copy and paste the content into the new table.
When I was happy with the new layout I only then deleted the old duplicated stuff and then clicked "save"
